Our Committee Chairs are game changers – or in this case “Games” changers. Their industry and sport event experience assure the Durham Region 2019 Ontario Parasport Games will be memorable for the competitors and all participants.
Kate Bird is our Chair of Sponsorship & Fundraising. Kate is a former executive director with Community Development Council of Durham and WindReach Farm. She also founded Career Essentials, dedicated to providing employment-skills-upgrading training to people with disabilities.
Our Special Events Committee Manager is Shauna Bookal. Shauna is a Campus Recreation & Facility Co-ordinator at Centennial College. She has held leadership roles with the Invictus Games, North American Indigenous Games, Canada 55+ Games, NBA All Star Week, Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, and Ontario Summer Games.
Brian Camenzuli is the Chair of our Sustainability Committee. Brian is Founder & CEO of CreaLive Design that builds virtual and physical product prototypes with sustainability at the forefront. He is also the Co-Founder and Vice President of Design for KARIBU Solar Power.
Our Chair of Communications & Marketing is Audra Leslie. She is the president and owner of Graymatter Marketing Solutions and Move Media. Audra brings more than 20 years of experience and contacts in marketing and media.
Anthony Lue is our Chair of Accessibility. Anthony is a hand cyclist currently training to represent Canada at the Tokyo Olympics. He has competed in a past Ontario Parasport Games.
A graduate of the Sports Management Program at Durham College, Garry MacLean is our Volunteer Committee Chair. Garry recently retired as the Program Developer of Partners in Play for Special Olympics Ontario.
Phil Meagher is our Chair of Transportation. Phil is a former manager of transit in Oshawa, Durham Region, Niagara Parks Commission, and Guelph. He also managed transportation for the 1997 Special Olympics World Winter Games, the largest-single sporting event held anywhere that year.
Delbert Menchions is our Chair of Food. Delbert began his career as a chef at the age of 20 at the Inn On The Park in Toronto. He now teaches culinary skills at a high school in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
Manager of Tourism for the Region of Durham, Brandon Pickard is our Chair of Accommodations. Brandon has experience with Golf Canada and Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On!
Janice Robinson is our Chair of Registration. A professor of Sport Management at Durham College, she served as an Advisor for the Organizing Committee of the 2015 Pan Am/Parapa Am Games. Janice has also served with Team Ontario Mission Staff at Canada Games.
Matt Sanchez is one of the founders of Aim2Walk NeuroChangers. Matt serves as Clinical Director and Physiotherapist at their clinic located in the Abilities Centre. He also serves as our Chair of Medical.
A wheelchair basketball player and coach, Christina Swett is our Chair of Sport. Currently a Senior Co-ordinator at the Abilities Centre, Christina also has experience with Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association and Wheelchair Basketball Canada.
